Blessed with a deliciously heady vanilla fragrance and an incredible, practically solid cascade of starry creamy-white 1” blooms late Summer thru Fall, “Sweet Autumn Clematis” is also a super tough “you-can’t-kill-it” twining vine. As it’s a most vigorous grower – it can reach 20’ in its first or second year – you can use it to cover a fence, arbor or pillar in a jiffy. We also grow it in a half barrel where it only reaches 8’. Average, well-drained soil. This Group 3 Clematis should be cut back severely in early Spring to 2’ from the ground for best habit and flower. Cut back immediately after bloom where self-sown seedlings are a problem.
