Alyogyne huegelii blue hibiscus is a gorgeous low-maintenance plant perfect for beginner gardeners! It grows without any help, needs hardly any water, and yet flowers all year round in mild climates! Plant it where everyone can see it and they’ll think you’re a gardening Ace! It’s easily one of the loveliest plants I’ve ever grown, bearing huge 4-5” delicate light-blue to lavender pinwheel flowers with little yellow eyes. Drought resistant once established, it can handle poor, sandy or rich soils (so long as they are well draining!). Its lobed dark green foliage is evergreen. While it can reach 6’x8’, it absolutely loves to be pruned to a smaller size and will produce much more abundant blooms on a denser, more comely and compact shrub. It can even be pruned to an ornamental tree or kept much smaller by planting in a container where it will still bloom happily! Over the years this beautiful Australian native has vanished from most nursery shelves, but we are happy to bring such carefree beauty back to the garden.
