Hands down one of the most beautiful of all Agaves! Short and compact at only 2-3’ x 3.5’ across with a habit like a perfectly symmetrical unfolding artichoke. Enhancing the brightness of the silvery-grey-blue chubby leaves are conspicuous mahogany terminal spines. Hardy to 15°F, thriving on neglect and adapted to heat, cold and drought “Artichoke Agave” is slow growing and may take many years to bloom – a giant 15’ stalk topped with dense clusters of yellow flowers. The flowering rosette dies after bloom but carries on with the sculptural clump of “pups” it made in the first several years. Requires excellent drainage (add gravel or lava rock). Deer resistant!
