What a cute common name! This is another tufted poppy like Eschscholzia caespitosa except this one lives in California’s Central Valley and Sierra Nevada foothills, whereas E. caespitosa is common to the North Coast ranges. Also, this one has golden yellow flowers (E. caespitosa’s are pale yellow) like buttercups, 1” across borne well above the soft green foliage. All together pleasant and looks sweet planted here and there in the garden. To 10” tall and wide, combines with Nemophila ‘Penny Black’ beautifully. Self Sows! Deer resistant!
