Want to add a touch of the tropics to your garden? This colorful vining shrub hails from tropical East Africa and produces the most amazing purplish-blue, trumpet-shaped flowers! These 3” long blooms have long, upward curving bases, fronted by intense, royal blue, 2” open-faced petals. Buds form as puffy, lightly hairy pods then, come summer, burst into vivid bloom. Flowering continues until late fall. Half shrub, half vine, this tender perennial can be pruned to be free standing or let go to scramble up a trellis. Branches top out at 6', with 4” dark green, oblong leaves. This beauty makes a great focal point in a container, whether it's climbing a trellis or cascading out of a tall pot. Plant in full sun to light shade in fertile, well-drained soil. No need to deadhead but cut back to 1' in late winter in order to flush out vital new growth.
