Sweet Scabious, Mourningbride

The large & almost spherical blooms of Scabiosa atropurpurea, or old-fashioned “Pin-cushion Flower,” come in a new color - pure white! A veritable “cut-flower machine,” the blooms are borne atop long, wiry stems up to 18” long & appear prolifically Spring thru Summer. Very easy to grow in full sun & rich, loamy soil & excellent in a large container. Cut back to 8” or 10” after bloom & fertilize or top dress with compost to keep her happy. Perennial in Sunset zone 16-17. Easy & much loved by butterflies & bees. To 3’ tall & 2’ spread.

Overwhelming Blooms
In 9b, these bloom continuously late spring into late fall/early winter. So many blooms you can't keep up with deadheading! Self seeds profusely. Decent cutflower. Fairly drought tolerant when mature.
