There are lettuces for all seasons. A lettuce variety that is sweet & mild in the Winter may become bitter or bolt in the heat of Summer. The ‘Summer Mix’ consists of a blend of more heat tolerant lettuces but unless you live right at the coast, you will get the best results by providing a bit of afternoon shade. Grow in good garden soil & keep evenly watered. You can pick off individual leaves or harvest the whole lettuce when needed, but it is always recommended to replant often for a long season of salad greens.

doing well here in Mill Valley CA, make sure you cloche the plants with AgFabric (get the kind that water will go through), getting enough for salad for two every night for last 2 months!
