One of the prettiest of all California lilacs, with an abundance of intense bluish-purple flowers over a long period from June to October. We owe this cross of C. gloriosus and C. masonii to Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden. Reaching a modest height and width of 4-6’ with attractive, shiny, holly-like leaves, it is an ideal addition to gardens both large and small. Very hardy, needs almost no water once established, deer-proof, long blooming, attractive to bees, butterflies and hummers, and the seeds providing valuable food for bushtits, mockingbirds, quail and finches while also provide cover for nesting birds. Can handle every type of soil, even clay, though it appreciates good drainage. Once established, don’t water during the Summer months as this may weaken the roots and lead to problems. Hardy to 0 degrees F. Long-lived.
