Calceolaria

It’s all about the color with this dazzling pint-sized “Ladyslipper” or “Pocketbook” flower! Displaying the richest, most velvety red ever, the .75” flower pouches sprout in bunches of 10-15 and are so prolific that they smother the plant from late Spring thru early Fall. Each pouch has a small opening, yellow on the underside, large enough to let bees collecting nectar wiggle their way in. Topping out at a modest 1’ high and wide, with dark green textured leaves, it’s a great way to add a splash of crimson to any sunny spot. Perfect for a container, I have mine in an azure blue ceramic pot, where its blooms can be displayed to maximum effect. Not hardy to areas that experience frost, but it’s still eminently worthwhile grown as an annual! Plant in lightly acidic, well-drained soil.
