This rare species of strawflower displays evocative whitish-silver leaves, forming a dense but sprawling mound to 12” tall. Come early summer, instantly recognizable papery white flowers sprout from branch tips, eventually smothering the plant. These 2” wide blooms are comprised of dozens of overlapping pure white florets, each covered with fine white hairs. Nectar-rich centers, visited by butterflies, offer an attractive contrast. The flowers are one of the very best cut flowers, lasting for weeks or longer in a vase (hang upside down to dry). Hailing from coastal sands & cliffs in South Africa, this durable & drought tolerant perennial is perfect as a ground cover in a sunny bed or for adding charm to a problem area. Plant in full sun to light shade in fertile, well-drained soil. Hardy to 20 degrees F. Where colder, it can be grown as an annual.
