An otherworldly beauty! This Summer blooming member of the Iris family features flowers with elongated, cream-colored larger outer petals decorated with maroon spotting and inner round petals heavily veined in that exquisite maroon hue. The upward-facing flowers are a sublimely sweet 1-2” across. Individual blooms last only a day, but each 18” high stem produces multiple blossoms, prolonging the show. Hailing from Mexico, this species “Tiger Flower” is hardier than the commonly found hybrids. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil. Ideal for pots. Over time, this bulb clumps out, producing a succession of flowering stems and thus a longer bloom season. Popular with bees and butterflies. Can be left in the ground to colonize.
