This is the ideal Salvia for a woodland garden! ‘Hot Trumpets’ thrives in shade, remains relatively compact (growing to 6-12”) & produces an almost endless supply of bright red 1’ tall flower spikes all season long. The foliage remains fairly low & is reminiscent of a heuchera - until the whopping big fire-engine red flowers appear! An excellent choice for attracting hummingbirds & butterflies, this herbaceous Salvia is often grown as an annual in colder climates, as it reseeds reliably & flowers vigorously in the first year. A very easy plant to grow, but it will not tolerate clay or wet feet. While drought tolerant, it will be far more floriferous with regular Summer water.
