Double Hellebores tend to make gardeners a wee bit rabid and black double Hellebores doubly so! Dollars to donuts, these wickedly beautiful plants won't linger long on our tables. The very large 3” “blooms” are slate black through dark purple in hue and hold their color over an extended period of time (3 months or more!). The downfacing blooms have 15-20 petals each for a very full look. New growth on this cultivar is dark in color as well! Stunning! Like all Hellebores, 'Onyx Odyssey' is a durable and reliable plant. Deer are no obstacle and neither are clay soil, nor drought. Blooms in winter thru the spring. Bred by Marietta O’Byrne of Eugene, Oregon, who has spent many years dedicatedly breeding Hellebores for flower size, number of blooms and superb vigor. The habit is roughly 2x2', but can become wider over time. Foliage is evergreen.
