Gorgeous golden pea blossoms make way for eye-catching seed pods on this deciduous shrub from Southern Europe. Grows quickly to a lush 7’x7’ with attractive grayish-green pinnate leaves. From Spring thru Summer, it produces innumerable 1” blooms. The flowers’ lightly veined orange upper petals each feature a yellow eye in the center, with a deeper orange petal below. Fascinating, 3” long, pink or purple-blushed, pale green, plump pods follow. Surprisingly tough, it adapts well to poor soils (so long as they’re well-drained), doesn’t require nutrient-rich conditions, and is drought tolerant, needing little Summer water. Makes a great focal point in the garden, especially since bees and hummingbirds will come calling once it begins blooming. Combines well with other shrubs. Deer resistant.
