Dusky burgundy buds open into prolific clusters of brushed cobalt flowers for a stunning bicolor effect. Delicate fragrant panicles occur in dreamy clouds of blue that envelop the entire plant! Glossy dark green leaves are 2” long, lance-shaped with a crinkly texture. This medium-sized evergreen shrub with a compact vase-shaped habit matures to 4-6’ tall and 6-8’ wide. Useful for growing along banks for erosion control or as hedging. Discovered in Wheeler Gorge near Ojai, this Spring-blooming California native is best suited to coastal areas, though it will thrive inland with the occasional deep drink of water during hot Summer months. Unfussy about soils, but needs good drainage. Drought-tolerant, deer-resistant and wildlife-friendly. Bees, butterflies and other insect pollinators go crazy over the flowers!
