With looks to swoon over and flavor to match! ‘Cabernet’ Onion has us week in the knees. Crunchy and sweet with just enough zip to put a sparkle in your eye, this long-intermediate onion produces medium – large, 2-3”, globe-shaped, bulbs with single centers and beautiful deep red color, just like your favorite Napa Cab. Earlier harvest compared to other red varieties without sacrificing size. Space plants 4” apart. Sandy loam soils are ideal; in heavier soils plant in raised beds or raised rows to promote better drainage. Onions do best with even and regular water, especially during the bulbing phase. Harvest when necks become soft and tops are falling over. For peak flavor, sun-cure 2-7 days, then move to a protected location to finish drying. Best stored in cool dry location, where they will keep 4–6 months. 100 days to maturity.
