An oldie but a goodie! This heirloom romaine produces crunchy, sweet leaves, with a buttery-green heart surrounded by thick green outer leaves on an upright plant. This nutritional, 10"-12", upright lettuce will soon be a favorite in your garden and your kitchen. It was developed by Clemson University around 1950 and named after the actual Parris Island off the coast of South Carolina. Grows best in cool weather in the spring or fall, but can be grown in summer and winter in milder climates. Choose cool, well drained, loose soil with pH 6.2-6.8. Lettuce is sensitive to low pH. 56 days to full size but may be harvested earlier.
