A little freaky when it comes to blooms as the common name indicates, this “Bottlebrush” only flowers on one side of the branch, rather than the usual full-circle blooms of its cousins. Hummingbird-attracting, feathery, red, stamen-bundle flowers appear in early Spring and bloom thru Summer contrasted by soft, 1” grey-green, evergreen needle-like foliage. Great for cutting! A native to Western Australia, it’s not picky about quite a few things: coastal winds, salt spray, sand, clay, dry, moist, Summer drought. It’s a toughie! Growing to 6-8’ high and wide it’s easily prunable (best done after flowering). Fine silvery texture makes it a beautiful hedge, windbreak or screening option. Avoid over fertilizing.
