An absolutely stunning, ultra-RARE ornamental tree! In Spring, it bears multitudes of flower spikes densely packed with fragrant, star-shaped white flowers featuring chartreuse centers that darken to an intense scarlet. In Fall, the foliage turns a stunning yellow that positively glows. After blooming, it produces golf-ball sized fruit containing nuts that are said to taste like sweet chestnuts! Extremely slow-growing, it will eventually reach 20-25' tall & wide if grown as a tree - but it is an easy matter to keep it pruned into a more compact shrub. Prefers loamy soil, but it's remarkably forgiving & will even accept clay, as long as it's planted on a slope. Can be a bit tetchy during transplanting, but once this tree gets established it’s exceptionally low-maintenance & high-impact.
