Salvia greggii
'Royal Bumble'
The most INTENSE scarlet red blooms we’ve ever seen on a Salvia. They really stand out against black calyxes and prominent, black, upright stems. To 30” x 30” with a compact, bushy habit, it never stops blooming here in coastal California. Prune back a bit annually to maintain tidiness and side-dress with compost in spring. EASY, drought tolerant and deer resistant!

This newer Salvia hybrid is a seriously prolific bloomer – giving you hordes of good-sized 3/4” electric violet-purple blooms from spring thru fall. Neat and more compact than many Salvias – to 20” x 24” – it’s perfect for the front of your bed or container (5 gal). Best in loamy, well-drained soil with a side dress of compost each fall and spring.

Angelica stricta purpurea
Rare and simply spectacular, we first discovered Angelica growing at the Mendocino Botanical Garden. Its foliage is a beautiful, luxurious, purple-black, that stand out like royalty amongst its neighbors. Huge ruby boat-shaped buds are followed by large, 4-5” umbels, that color shift from mauve to dark violet-purple. Much loved by butterflies, EASY, fairly fast, and blooms first year if spring planted.

Sidalcea malviflora 'Purpetta'
A super EASY variety of our West Coast native “Checkermallow” but much sturdier, with larger and richer, fuchsia-pink blooms- held on many strong, multi-branching upright stems. To 4’ tall, it’s a front or mid-bed beauty and swell for providing a vertical accent. Blooms summer thru fall, with deadheading. Cut flowers and butterflies! Tough, long lived and tolerant of less than perfect soil, but give it fertile, loamy soil for best show.

The largest flowers we’ve ever seen on a Columbine! Also one of the longest blooming - through mid-summer. Cut back to a few inches tall when it’s done and it will bloom again in the fall. Unlike so many modern hybrids, it’s reliably perennial, long-lived and FRAGRANT! 3’ x 2’. Rich soil is best.

Intense, dark rosy pink outer petals contrast beautifully with white centers on 2” wide, long-spurred blooms. Makes a great cut flower! Its vigorous upright, airy habit make it a nice addition to woodland gardens, sunny rock gardens, and cottage gardens. 2’x2’ when in bloom, with flowers borne on tall branching stems held about 1’ above showy, lacy foliage.

One of our favorite California native late-summer thru fall bloomers! Profuse glowing-red trumpet flowers and dense shimmery grey-green foliage, it spreads quickly by the roots to form a rounded 6” tall and 4-5’ wide mat, perfect for low maintenance slopes, driveway edging and along pathways. Let it spill over a wall or cascade out of a raised bed. MOBs of HUMMERS are certain to gorge on the nectar. Vigorous, TOUGH as NAILS and heat and drought tolerant, just provide fertile, well-drained soil and at least an occasional drink of Summer water for lush display. Cut back to 1” in Winter. Deer resistant! Deciduous.

'Purple Haze'
This UBER-TOUGH California native Aster, performs like a champ bursting into a cloud of 1.5”-2” golden-eyed, lavender “daisy” blooms August to October, even in the driest part of your garden! It’s happy in any soil including CLAY, is EXTREMEMELY DROUGHT TOLERANT, HEAT TOLERANT and much loved by butterflies and bees. To 2.5’ tall and wide, it’s a good choice for parking strips and neglected areas. Spreads vigorously by rhizomes in well watered gardens, not much with low water. Great in containers. Cut back to ground after bloom. Deciduous. Deer resistant!

This fine “Hummingbird Mint” is a nursery staff favorite due to its earlier and long bloom season, and appealing habit . With its tidy compact mounding 26” tall x 2’ wide form and phenomenal number of bloom spikes, it’s a champ both in the garden or container. Erect narrow rich purple 6-8” bloom spikes crowd above the licorice-scented foliage for months, bringing lots of bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Great summer thru fall bloomer that adds valuable vertical character to the garden.
