Arctotis ‘Sunset’ This durable African daisy pumps out a succession of endless 3” red flowers from late fall through spring, blooming at a time when not much else in our gardens provides color. First forming a mat of silvery-green lobed leaves, lower (4-6”) than wider (12-14”), this drought tolerant, long blooming daisy produces an abundance of fiery, nectar-rich blooms much coveted by bees, hummers and butterflies. Better behaved than the other African daisy (Osteospermum), this evergreen daisy is perfect for adding color to a sunny bed, jazzing up a mixed container planter or for spilling out of a hanging basket. It can also be employed as a low border and is drought tolerant enough to add pizzazz to a dry garden bed. It is easy to grow, needing only good drainage, some sun, and is compact enough to put almost anywhere you want a splash of color. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun to light shade. Deer resistant. |
