Tomato
'Cascade Lava'

Hands-down the favorite tomato of our 2019 trials! Sweet, somewhat juicy, with a light acid zing - the 2-3 oz. fruits are true ugly ducklings with woody-looking pale greyish spots marring an otherwise pretty red and orange streaked surface. Perfect for eating fresh and supposedly a very nice paste tomato (though none of our fruit made it out of the garden to test this claim). A moderate-sized indeterminate, reaching about 6’ tall, it’s not the most productive variety, but has a long season, lasting well into our warm Bay Area Fall. Developed at Wild Boar Farms in Napa, this 2013 entry has already developed a strong following. As with most tomatoes, it is best to add bone meal and calcium to the soil at the time of planting. Grow in fertile, well-drained soil and provide support.
