Snap Pea
'Sugar Magnolia'

Anyone who’s spent too much of their garden time hunting for green peas amongst green pea vines knows that the struggle is real! Well, no more! Here’s a gorgeous purple-podded snap pea that’s a synch to spot. Growing best in cool weather (production will continue up thru mid-Summer before petering out), this highly ornamental edible features gorgeous pink and purple bouquet-worthy blooms followed by 3” dark purple pods. Give it a trellis or cage to clamber up and it should reach about 6’ tall. Not the most productive variety, so if you want a big harvest it’s best to plant a few, but if you just want a handful each day to toss into salads, then one plant is fine. Harvest pods before the seeds plump up – they keep their purple color when cooked. The more you pick, the more it will produce! Grown from seed, so expect some variability including the occasional green-podded plant.
