Delphinium bulleyanum

This ULTRA-RARE species hailing from W. China looks and behaves surprisingly similarly to our CA native Delphs! In Spring 2.5-3’ upright multi-branching stalks emerge holding 1” lovely lavender-blue elf hat shaped flowers with dark purple and white fuzzy “bees” and prominently curled spurs.  Mature plants can fill out to a foot and a half with lightly toothed green leaves. Exceptionally hardy, this sun lover is easy and fast to bloom in average to rich very well-draining soils. Perfect for adding a vertical element to a garden and impressive when mass planted. It’s a popular destination for hummingbirds and bees. Deadhead for prolonged bloom. Cut back to the ground and apply mulch in Winter. Deer and mildew resistant.
