Sweeter & more tender than regular cabbage, ‘Tronchuda’ is the famous ingredient in Caldo Verde, the totally delicious national soup of Portugal. It also turned out to be one of the most striking cabbages in my garden last year. It doesn’t grow like a normal cabbage head; it’s more like a bluish-green collard/kale, with very thick white ribs, succulent leaves & frilly edges. You can harvest the whole plant, or keep picking off leaves to prompt more tender growth. Eat the green part like kale & the ribs like cabbage. Quite heat resistant & overwinters in mild climates.
