Dudleya virens ssp. hassei
“Catalina Island Live-Forever”
Native to rocks and cliffs of Santa Catalina Island, this rare Dudleya produces tightly held offsets, creating a delectable mound 7” tall and about 2’ across. Ghostly chalky white narrow “fingers” turn pink at the tips under dry conditions. Blooming in Spring, hummingbirds and butterflies come to visit the starry white blooms held above 12” showy red stems. An elegant addition to well-drained rock gardens – or plant in multiples for a groundcovery highlight. A superb “no worries” container subject as well! LONG-LIVED, heat and drought tolerant, Dudleyas do not require much fertility but will not be happy in clay. Deer resistant. Hardy to 25°F.
