Plant MAGIC!

You wouldn't think one of the most sought-after plants in the nursery would be a Basil – but this ain't no ordinary Basil! Lush purple-black foliage topped with zillions of 8" violet blooms make Basil herbalea 'Wild Magic' a stunning gardenworthy ornamental (to 18" tall x 24" wide), with the added benefit of being edible and delicious. We think its fruity, never-bitter flavor is similar to Thai Basil and we're happy to say that our first crop of the year is ready!

Last year, we planted it with lovely Lavatera trimestris 'Pink Blush', Lupinus regalis ‘Gallery Yellow’ and Salvia 'Amistad' for an EASY, super long-blooming combo and WHOA. Visitors went nuts. Bees, butterflies and hummingbirds went nuts. It was a win for everyone – giving us luscious color, cut flowers, and fragrance and providing pollinators with a bounty of nectar from late-Spring to Fall.

Handsome Anisodontea sp. 'Strybing Beauty' quickly filled out the background with its bushy 6' x 6' form and cherry-eyed pink Hollyhock like blooms. Blooming generously 12 months of out of the year, it's another excellent source of nectar for bees and butterflies all year long.

For maximum happiness (yours AND the plants), be sure to give your hearty new friends well-draining and fertile soil (i.e.: NOT heavy clay!). A 1" layer of compost on top of the soil just after planting will give them a much-appreciated boost and get them off to a good start.
