Centaurea cyanus

Old-fashioned TALL “Bachelor's Buttons” are becoming hard to find these days, sadly replaced by dwarf varieties. This is the real deal, boasting richest blue, edible blooms over a long period! Petals make a lovely blue dye. Reseeds!

Antirrhinum majus
'Chantilly Bronze'

Frilly, delicately scented old-fashioned "butterfly" blooms feature an exquisitely shifting color palette. Properly tall to 3', they'll bloom all the way to Fall, after which you can harvest the flowers to create soft green dyes.

Passiflora
'Blue Horizon'

Ultra-showy and profuse blooming, this exotic and tropical looking Passionflower makes an excellent fast-growing screen for a trellis or fence. Vines and leaves produce golden yellow to earth green dyes.

Rudbeckia hirta ‘Prairie Sun’ Hollyhock
'Halo Purple' Dahlia ‘Softie’

Rudbeckia hirta
'Prairie Sun'

Our favorite Rudbeckia sports a lemon eye and yellow-orange petals to brighten the Fall garden! To 2’x 2', it smothers itself in blooms. Can overwinter in mild climates. Flowers, leaves and stems yield dusky brown, yellow-golds and dark green dyes.

Hollyhock 'Halo Purple'
PERENNIAL and RUST RESISTANT, these luscious cottage garden staples are perfect for adding easy vertical interest and hummingbird appeal! Plant now for Spring bloom! To 4’ across with multiple 5-8' towering spikes, flowers make a rich red dye. Hardy to USDA 3.

Dahlia ‘Softie’
One of the superstars of our Summer gardens, this scrumptious pink-and-yellow beauty is an incredible work horse to boot! Blooms May thru Fall (with deadheading), requiring NO STAKING. Mildew resistant, hardy to USDA zone 7. Flowers yield yellow dye.

Eschscholzia californica
'Apricot Chiffon' Lavandula X intermedia ‘Provence’ Achillea ageratum
‘Moonwalker’

Eschscholzia californica
'Apricot Chiffon'

Our dreamiest "California Poppy" comes in peach suffused with warm rose and is deliciously gorgeous anywhere you plant it. Plant with Penstemon 'Blue Springs' for a heart-melting combo. Roots and flowers make for bright yellow dyes.

Lavandula x intermedia ‘Provence’
Vigorous, deliciously fragrant and easy-as-pie to grow, this hybrid Lavender is adaptable to dry and humid climates. Fast-growing to 3' x 3', you'll get plenty of flowers for posies and sachets. Flowers yield yellow, gray and teal dye. Hardy to USDA zone 6.

Achillea ageratum
‘Moonwalker’

One of the BEST Yarrows for the garden, its sweetly scented, ferny foliage STAYS GREEN in Summer and doesn’t go bald in the center. Easy, drought tolerant, deer resistant, the flowers make lovely yellow, bronze, green and gray dyes! Hardy to USDA 5.
