| Dudleya farinosa
“Bluff Lettuce”

This Dudleya shows a rainbow of colors! The center of the rosettes are a beautiful blue-grey & are covered with a powdery wax. Where the wax has rubbed off, the leaves appear apple green. Then when certain leaves are low in water they turn bright red. The colors are increased by the bright yellow flowers that bloom on red stems May-September. Quite showy! Often seen growing from cracks in rock bluffs near the coast, it is hard to imagine how these plants survive sometimes. The succulent leaves & stems store moisture that the plant uses during dry times. Native to much of the California coast, the leaves & stems of this Dudleya were eaten by many indigenous people. Individual rosettes are about 6”x6” & will spread by “pups.” The flower stalks reach about 1’ high. Needs good drainage & would be a great candidate for a pot or popping out of a rock wall.
