| Salvia officinalis
‘Berggarten’
This is a compact variety of the familiar culinary sage. Growing only to about 18” tall, it bears large, oval shaped leaves instead of the narrow, pointy leaves of plain S. officinalis. The new leaves start out a fresh green & become a soft, downy-gray & aromatic with age. They are excellent for any recipe calling for Sage. A shy bloomer, it bears whorls of two-lipped, 1”, purple flowers in short, upright spikes in Spring & early Summer. Attractive to bees & butterflies.
