Beschorneria septentrionalis
“False Agave”
Discovered in the Mexican mountains in 1991, the magnificent red and green bell-shaped blooms hang like little hummingbird feeders from 4-5’ tall red stalks Spring through early Summer. Awesome, attention grabbing focal point plant. When the flowers aren’t putting on a show, succulent, graceful, strappy, evergreen foliage grows 2-3’ wide & high. In hot spots, Beschorneria septentrionalis likes a little bit of shade protection, but on the coast full sun is good. Like its Agave family friends, it doesn’t need much water once established, just well drained soil. A little rich moist soil won’t hurt either.
