Penstemon clevelandii var. connatus
A beauty of a CA desert beardtongue that thrives here by the bay! Its pleasing pink sprays of little trumpets are many & bloom OFTEN. Our sample pots were started in Summer & are still in flower almost a year later - & it blooms many times of the year in other places as well, not just mild & balmy Richmond. Best of all, it has handled Winter here so gracefully, albeit without too much compost or water, which would be hurtful, not helpful. Evergreen, it has lightly serrated leaves in a grey-green hue, fused to the stem in an interesting way. To 3’ high & 2-3’ wide when established & in full bloom. Your hummingbirds will thank you & your deer will NOT! Prune back to green growth annually for a tidier appearance.
