Phygelius capensis ‘Wild Form’

Wonderfully weird! You might think you know this plant – but look again. Yes, it’s a “Cape Fuchsia” – it is in fact THE “Cape Fuchsia” but for some reason when the horticulture industry got their mitts on this easy, carefree, drought tolerant & almost ever-blooming plant, they bred out its most charming quirk – the contorted blooms! Here we give you the opportunity to experience the original, wild, wacky thing. Blooms reliably all through Summer with 1.5” trumpets of rich orangey red all along foot-long stalks that range above foliage, which varies in height depending on provisions. It might grow to a compact 2-3’, but given the opportunity it will wind its slender branches through other shrubs. It can be maintained lower & I do advise one hard cut back a year – to 6” or so – for a tidy appearance. Spreads slowly by stolons & provides great nectar for hummers. From South Africa.
