Squash ‘Tromboncini’
"Trombone Squash"

Up to 3 feet long mature squashes will really catch your eye, looking like trombone shaped butternut Winter squashes. Before the fruits mature, they are a light speckled chartreuse, like a bulbous zucchini with a skinny neck. If you harvest them when 8-18” long, they are delicious cooked as Summer squash but with a distinctly different flavor (touch of artichoke?). If left to mature, they are best used as ornamental gourds but can be cooked like pumpkin for pies or for Mexican calabaza candy or sauces. ‘Tromboncini’ is the most vigorous of all the squashes with vines up to 8’ long. Not for the postage stamp sized garden. Give them a sturdy trellis or fence to climb on; this will also keep the squashes straight & without kinks. Otherwise just give them decent soil and average water.  If you live in a hot & humid climate, ‘Trombonicini’ will stay much healthier for you than regular Summer squashes.
