Brachysema lanceolata
“Swan River Pea”
(syn. Gastrolobium celsianum)
photo:(left) Bill Strong (right)Danielle Langlois
A debonair Winter bloomer, this Western Australia native begins the flower party in January, continuing the show through late-Spring, with ruby-red, hummingbird attracting, 1” long parrot beak shaped blooms. A lovely intermingler, its habit can be a wee bit variable, ranging from 3-5’ high & wide, with fetching, deep green, 4” long, lance-shaped leaves that sport silvery grey undersides. Totally adaptable, it doesn’t mind life on the coast, humidity, heat & it’s even DROUGHT TOLERANT once established. Well draining soil is key to happiness.
