Aloe tenuior “Fence Aloe”

photo:Abu Shawka
Flowering YEAR ROUND, this rambling, sort of viney, sort of shrubby Aloe hits its peak bloom in Winter. Masses of cheerful canary yellow bloom spikes on slender stems attract pollinators from near & far. Native to South Africa’s Eastern Cape it can grow to a privacy fence height of ten feet. Long, narrow dark green leaves grow in tufts at the end of branches. Well drained soil is important for success. Some random odd facts, “The leaves are used traditionally as a purgative and tapeworm remedy, while a bath taken in the foam of the leaves is believed to be a powerful charm to ensure good luck.”
