Viola bakeri
“Baker’s Violet”
Native to CA, NV, OR & WA, the sweet little golden yellow “Baker’s Violet” blooms late Spring through early Summer. Cheery, short stemmed flowers are tinged with hints of contrasting brown veining. Growing up to 12” tall & wide (often more petite), it grows from a woody taproot making it more drought tolerant than your typical Viola. Little 2.5” long elliptical leaves are a wee bit fuzzy. Found in sunny, dryish open meadows in coniferous forests at up to 3,600' altitudes. Prefers rich, well drained soil & would make a delightful addition to any rock garden!
