Eremalche parryi
Lilac-pink, cup-shaped flowers profess the Spring on this graceful endemic mallow. Found as far south as Santa Barbara & as far north as our very own Bay Area, it grows up to 2’ high & wide over green to grey lobed leaves & can range in color from near white to mid-pink. Each flower is around 1” across. In the wild, peak bloom occurs around March & April, but in garden conditions it can certainly go later. This wildflower isn’t one that seems to balk terribly at heat. Combine it with some of the more robust & heat tolerant native wildflowers for a meadow-esque combo that’s less ephemeral! Other late & great annuals include Madia elegans, Layia gaillardioides, Linanthus grandiflorus, Leptosiphon, & of course, the Clarkias.
