With a central head that has the potential to get more than 8” wide, ‘Packman’ is quite a producer. And if the plant is left in the ground after the central head is cut, you still get lots of mini-headed side shoots to eat! If mini shoots over a long period is your intention, cut the central head before it gets to full size. Doing so will make the shoots a bit bigger. ‘Packman’ is an early-maturing variety (60 days) with an excellent flavor.  I bought my first ‘Packman’ seedlings because it was the only variety available in the nursery & I had to plant broccoli ASAP. My expectations were low (I really wanted an heirloom variety), but Packman is a fine broccoli that I now choose to grow. Plant 8-12” apart in well fertilized garden soil & keep well watered. Plant again in the Spring for continual harvest.
