Iris x douglasiana “Mixed Hybrids”

Iris x douglasiana “Mixed Hybrids” Iris x douglasiana “Mixed Hybrids”

Delicate, beautiful & TOUGH! Wild forms of this native iris are found all along the coast of California where the elegant 4” flowers are predominantly purple to cream, but breeders have incorporated genetic material from other species & stretched the color range to include browns, oranges, yellows & reds, with a huge array of forms & markings. These are seed grown with an assortment of colors. Who knows what you may discover! Bloomtime is March & April. Foliage is clumping & evergreen, 1’ tall & 4’ wide. NO SUMMER WATER IS REQUIRED, once the plants are established. Great under oaks (DRY SHADE!!) Likes a little grit & drainage, but thrives in clay as well. Inland, give more shade. By the coast, full sun is just fine.
