Mimulus bifidus
“Apricot Monkeyflower”

 Mimulus bifidus “Apricot Monkeyflower”

The flowers of this CA native Monkeyflower are spectacular: 2” wide & soft peachy apricot with a strikingly sculptured edge reminiscent of azaleas. Yet M. bifidus is the real unhybridized thing & is found growing wild in the Sierra Foothills, the Pinnacles & the Santa Lucia Mountains. It grows well in gardens as long as it is given good drainage. Lower in habit than other shrubby Mimulus, growing 2-4’ wide & high & is well suited for sunny as well as filtered sun locations. Because it does not require irrigation, it is a good choice under oaks as well as in containers. The flowers are very popular with hummingbirds, the whole plant highly deer resistant, particularly if you let it go Summer dormant.
