This double-duty heirloom was introduced before 1850 & is still a popular bean today! One of the best bush beans for early planting, as it tolerates cool temperatures well. Beans are deep green, 6” long & stringless. When picked very young, they make a flavorful & fresh snap bean & if allowed to dry, the jet-black beans make excellent soup! The flavor is rich & nutty. This bush bean would benefit from a little bit of support to grow through or lean on, but it needs no trellis or heavy rigging! Start by picking beans young at first to ensure best production. Rich soil, of course! 50-67 days.
