Tetragonolobus purpurea
“Asparagus Pea”

Tetragonolobus purpurea “Asparagus Pea” Tetragonolobus purpurea “Asparagus Pea”

This unusual veggie is an entertaining addition to the edible garden. Blooms are an attractive deep red & each bean is edged in 4 delicate & frilly ridges. The plant itself is a low growing scrambler & performs well in containers as well as in the ground. Browse plants frequently, as pods are best eaten at just a few inches long (before they are fully mature). The red flowers are edible as well & can be used as a garnish. The taste is, as the name suggests, delicately Asparagus-like. Rich soil is not required. Best in areas with high heat! Inlanders rejoice! To 6-12" high & 15-18" wide.
