Gladiolus scullyi

Gladiolus scullyi

A pixie-esque species Glad with primrose yellow blooms tipped in shades of violet. Flowers arrive very early in the year, for us around February. Grow this little jewel somewhere you can keep track of it! We’re talkin’ pots or rockeries for this gal, not so much the busy border. Like many Winter-growing species Glads, it NEEDS a dry Summer rest, especially because this species likes it fairly dry to begin with. Withhold water once you see the leaves start to brown in late Spring. They should pop right back up in Fall, when you (& hopefully the weather forecast) should resume watering. Blooms are sweetly scented & nice cut, but probably too precious to harvest for a bouquet. Grows between 6-16” high & narrow, though that probably goes without saying. From South Africa.
