Sedum oreganum
“Oregon Stonecrop”
If you find yourself looking for a native groundcover please consider this handsome green Sedum. Hardy & evergreen, it’s delightful in a rockery or at the garden’s edge. “Oregon Stonecrop” (which has a range from N. California-Alaska) grows to no higher than 4” & often lower, but will spread wide where space allows. Flowers are yellow, borne in Summer & are rich in nectar for butterflies & bees. This Sedum is actually edible in small quantities, though eating too much will give you a headache. According to some herbalists, mere proximity to the plant can cure you of closed mindedness, but we have yet to test this claim. In hotter & drier areas than its native range it will require a little extra water to look its best & in all situations, good drainage is preferable. Just avoid planting it in areas where there’s regular sogginess.
