Dichelostemma ida-maia x multiflorum
'Pink Diamond' 

Wayne Roderick from the Tilden Botanical Garden selected this naturally occurring hybrid from a cross between the fiery red firecracker Dichelostemma & a blue Brodiaea. The 6-20 tubular flowers are deep pink & reflexing at the end & like its firecracker parent, it is very attractive to hummingbirds & butterflies. The 20” strap-like leaves emerge early in Spring & are followed by 8-20” flower stems later in the season. While it is important it gets ample water during the growing season (Winter/early Spring), the plant will go dormant during Summer & it is important to then keep it dry at that time. In the wild it grows at the edge of woods & it will be happy in full sun as well part shade. Tolerant of both clay & sandy soil, it will slowly spread & become a several foot wide clump.
