Passiflora trisecta

Passiflora trisecta

Attention nocturnal gardeners! If you're like me, sometimes the only time you have to enjoy the garden is after hours. There's nothing quite like wandering around the garden in the twilight & this is one of those night blooming plants that is extra special during this time. As the light fades, the huge white flowers unfurl! The 4” flowers are fully open by 8PM & closed for business by 8AM, so you early birds can catch them as well. As the name suggests, the leaves are incised to the base in three parts & all are covered in downy hairs with a flannel-pajama soft feel. Bats are this plant's primary pollinator. Survives heavy frost once established here in the Bay Area & needs average water to thrive. Cut back in Spring to control the size, which can be up to 30' if left unchecked. Our observation is that the plant blooms most during the Spring & Fall & takes time off during Summer heat & Winter cold. From Bolivia.
