Aeonium goochiae
We didn’t just decide to grow this Aeonium because of its weird name – we also decided to grow it because it’s funny looking! The thin, spoon-shaped leaves have a matte finish & feel weirdly rubbery to the touch – sort of like Play-doh. It is also thin stemmed, & as such often has a trailing habit. Flowering commences in mid-Spring, with light pink blooms held close to the center of the rosettes. Under stress of drought, the leaves turn red. Rarely seen in cultivation, & often when you do find plants they are mislabeled! This is the real thing. Its thin leaves don’t lend themselves to hot sun like some Aeoniums, but I’m betting that this would be a great candidate for both dry shade & hanging baskets! Trails to 2’ across (maybe more?), & is under a foot in height.
