Erepsia lacera
“Paarl Roosvygie”

Erepsia lacera “Paarl Roosvygie” Erepsia lacera “Paarl Roosvygie”

photo: (right) Kelly Kilpatrick

A seriously showy succulent! In early Summer it puts on a Vegas-style show of flashy, hot magenta flowers 2” across & packed with petals at branch tips. Leaves are 3” long & interestingly geometric & angular. Over time it becomes quite shrubby, attaining 2.5’ in height & width. This species is fast to flower & will often do so the first year from seed! Erepsia lacera has a lifespan of 5-8 years & is easily grown from cuttings if one needs replacing. Our Mediterranean climate is quite similar to the area of South Africa where this plant comes from. Prefers good drainage & low water in a sunny position.
