| Cheirolophus arbutifolius
“Canary Island Shrub Cornflower”
Long blooming, unusual, & showy! Cheirolophus, commonly known as “Shrub Cornflowers” on their native Canary Isles, are little known & little grown here in the US, but are a handsome & very tough bunch - well worth a place in the dry garden! Remaining evergreen in all but the coldest winters, they bloom over a long season – Spring through Fall. Cheirolophus arbutifolius, is rare & endangered, & has mid-green leaves with a serrated edge, with 1” pink pom-pom like flowers on long stems. It can grow a whopping 10’ tall, but more often achieves 6’, & is less wide than high. Drought tolerant, but prefers rich, well drained soil & a sunny site.
